BUILDING LICENCES

You are reminded that if you require to carry out any building / construction work within the boundaries of the municipality of Iznate you are required to seek permission from the Town Hall and apply for the appropriate licence.

WARNING- NEW SPEED CAMERAS

There have been 8 new speed cameras erected on the motorway gantries (eastbound) in the vicinity of km243 - 245 (Málaga side of tunnel Cerrano de Calderon) and at km 256 -257 Benalgabon area. The limit is 80kph.

FRAUDULENT GAS "ENGINEERS"

Every year, we are subjected to the campaigns of some fraudulent companies that try to make money by “checking our gas installation”. Their target groups are mainly elderly people and foreigners. They usually present themselves as agents authorized by the Junta of Andalucía to inspect your installation, threatening large fines if you don’t accede to their demands. They don’t give you any possibility to consult with anybody else as they threaten to leave immediately, leaving you without their service and exposing yourself to an inspection of the Junta with large fines. They make you pay immediately with cash or credit card. They prepare a quote that they submit to you and that you have to sign. Their quotes can be 5 to 6 times higher than another company. Once you have signed, you are trapped. They “verify” your installation, perhaps changing the gas pipes, and will charge you between 300 and 400€. Having signed the quote, you have very few possibilities of winning a case against them in a court of law.

All this is a fraud. The only obligation you have is that the original installation should have been done by an authorized agent. Afterwards, you have no obligation to maintain the installation except for your personal safety. (Companies and public establishments have the legal obligation of annual maintenance). Your house is private property; nobody enters without your consent. If you are a victim of such a fraud, contact your Town Hall. Some of the Town Halls do subscribe to Consumers Defence Groups and can assist you in making a complaint. If you need your installation verified, only trust people you know!

TARJETA SESENTAYCINCO (65 CARD)

A lot of our residents in the area are pensioners and are not informed about an important free service offered by the Junta de Andalucía; the TARJETA SESENTAYCINCO (65 CARD).

Requirement;

o The only requirement is that you have reached the age of 65 years and that you are listed in the “PADRÓN” in one of the towns or villages of Andalucía.

Advantages;

o Your card will give you access to several social services, some museums and discounts on for example buses, spectacles and/or hearing aid, etc.

Application;

o You can obtain your application form in the Delegación Provincial of the Consejería de Salud y Bienestar Social, or you can keep it simple and collect one from the Town Hall where they will be happy to assist and download the form from the internet. After completing the form, it will be send to the Consejería de Salud y Bienestar Social-Apartado de Correos 1130 -41080 Sevilla.

What documents do you need?

o 1. Application form completed.
2. A recent passport photo to be attached in the correct area.
3. Legal copy of your NIE as well as a certificate of “padrón”.

The village library (biblioteca) is willing to accept donations of English language books for the expat community to enjoy. Anyone wishing to downsize their personal library please take your unwanted books to the library in Calle de la Fuente (behind and to the left of the surgery).

SPANISH NON-RESIDENT TAX.

If you are Non-Resident and reside in Spain you are liable to pay two types of tax annually.

Council Tax (IBI) - Paid locally to the Town Hall, SUMA offices or via a bank
Income Tax - Payable to Agencia Tributaria.

If you own a property in Spain as a non-resident, it is considered a holiday home and a source of income, thus liable for additional income tax. Each Title Deed holder should present an annual declaration for property(s) owned.

If you live in Spain in excess of 183 days (even if they are non-consecutive) you are considered a resident and liable for Spanish Income Tax.

Late declarations and payments will incur a fine. Property and Bank accounts are now liable to be embargoed until outstanding taxes and fines are paid.
